Background of the Study
Political rivalry, often rooted in competition for power and resources, can have a detrimental effect on local development, especially when it leads to the stagnation of development projects. In Hadejia LGA, Jigawa State, political rivalry has resulted in the stalling of several infrastructure projects, thereby hindering socio-economic development. Local development, which includes improvements in roads, healthcare, education, and water supply, has been disrupted due to political disputes between key political figures and parties (Aliyu & Abdullahi, 2023). The competition for political control in Hadejia has led to a lack of cooperation between elected officials, civil servants, and the public, with critical projects remaining unfinished or underfunded (Nasir & Jibril, 2024). This study seeks to investigate how political rivalry has affected local development in Hadejia LGA, focusing on the case study of stalled projects and the broader implications for governance.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
The rivalry between political factions in Hadejia LGA has led to the abandonment or delay of key infrastructure projects that are vital to the development of the local area. These stalled projects have caused frustration among residents and diminished trust in the effectiveness of local governance (Suleiman & Usman, 2023). This study will examine the impact of political rivalry on the progression of these projects and the consequences for local development.
